Five Stone Mountain homeowners will open their houses Dec. 10 to show off their Christmas decorations and raise money for nonprofits during the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club 2011 Christmas Home Tour.
The tour has become an annual event after running on and off for about 15 years, said Elizabeth Wells, club member and the tour’s co-chair.
“My favorite part is seeing the faces of the people who come and seeing how much they enjoy it,” Wells said. “It’s just gotten to be an event people look forward to.”
The tour is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include five homes – three in the Smoke Rise area and two in the Village of Stone Mountain.
Wells said the Woman’s Club finds local homeowners willing to showcase their homes by talking with the club’s extended committee, word of mouth or knocking on doors of homes they believe would work well with the tour.
“We like a variety of homes,” she said. “Usually all the homeowners are receptive because they know they’re supporting a good cause.”
The money raised by the event will be donated to several organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities, ART Station, Operation Christmas Child and the Heifer Project International.
“This really goes back to the community through the projects we support,” Wells said.
Tickets can be purchased at ART Station in Stone Mountain, the Stone Mountain Old Post Emporium, the Stone Mountain Village Visitors Center and from any of the 77 members of the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour. The tour includes a chicken salad box lunch between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Woman’s Club Clubhouse, 5513 E. Mountain St.
